A missing key yields the zero NodeView; its ID() panicked inside a reader
goroutine and took down the test binary instead of failing with a diagnostic.
One peer build per tag/user/IP/route write; callers detect policy moves
via NodesGeneration. Per-node caches only store results for the node
pm holds, so a mapper reading mid-build cannot pin a stale filter.
Every exported types.Node field is pinned to relation/election/payload
in nodeFieldImpact; a new field fails until classified, and each
relation/election field gets a mutation check against updateChanges.
Rapid test drives random writes through a real NodeStore and policy
manager, checking adjacency before and after syncPolicy against a
BuildPeerMap from a fresh policy manager.
API keys, pre-auth keys and OAuth clients/tokens share one table and verify
path. Secrets carry 256 bits of crypto/rand entropy, so a SHA-256 digest
needs no stretching; bcrypt/argon2id rows rehash on use until 0.32.
Online now requires a live session and an unexpired key, derived in one
place by Node.ShouldBeOnline so every writer agrees what online means.
Fixes#3470
ListPeers with explicit IDs filtered every node, not every peer, so a change
batch naming the recipient returned it as its own peer. db.ListPeers keeps
this out with `id <> nodeID`; the NodeStore rewrite dropped it.
PR tailscale/tailscale#20646 changed the representation of DERP region
IDs from plain ints to a tailcfg.DERPRegionID type. This patch
requires that version of the tailscale.com library and updates our
code to also use the new type.
Updates: tailscale/tailscale#20165
(cherry picked from commit 79695ab51b)
With node.ephemeral.inactivity_timeout set, ephemeral nodes are
usually deleted after they go offline, but under reconnect churn some
departed nodes stayed in the node list as disconnected indefinitely
until removed manually or until Headscale restarted.
Ephemeral cleanup is timer-based via EphemeralGarbageCollector, not a
periodic LastSeen scan. serveLongPoll cancelled any pending GC timer
at the very start of a long-poll attempt and only rescheduled on a
clean disconnect after Connect. If a reconnect cancelled the timer and
then failed before Connect (for example an UpdateNodeFromMapRequest
error), the deferred cleanup saw connectGen == 0 and returned without
Schedule. The node remained offline with no deletion timer and no
reconciler to recover it.
Cancel the ephemeral GC timer only after a successful Connect, so a
failed reconnect leaves an already-armed inactivity timer intact.
Successful reconnects still cancel GC once the node is online, and a
later disconnect reschedules as before.
Add TestFailedReconnectDoesNotCancelEphemeralGC to lock in the
ordering, plus IsScheduled and DeleteNodeFromStoreForTest helpers for
the test.

Re-registering a tagged node with a different key discarded the new key's
tags and left a stale auth-key reference; retag on key change and persist it.
Fixes#3370
Scan a node-health check registry at boot and log each node whose name
can't form a valid FQDN, with the rename fix. Log-only, no mutation.
Updates #3346
Add the OAuth client type, its database storage, the scope grant package,
policy tag-ownership exposure, and the state operations backing the v2
OAuth client-credentials flow.
Tailscale's keys API has no separate expire verb: DELETE is the revoke.
Map it to a soft revoke so the key stays retrievable as invalid afterwards
instead of vanishing, matching the SDK and Terraform's expectations.
Add a revoked timestamp to pre-auth keys (migration plus schema), mark a
key invalid once revoked, and have the keys DELETE handler stamp it rather
than destroy the row. A background collector reaps revoked keys after a
configurable retention window (preauth_keys.revoked_retention, default
168h), so the table does not grow without bound.
Give API keys an optional owning user and pre-auth keys a free-text
description, plus the state accessors the v2 API needs to act as a
key's owner and to persist descriptions.
The new full-tree golangci-lint check reports issues the --new-from-rev
diff lint hid: nine wsl_v5 whitespace gaps, a prealloc, and an unparam
(setCSRFCookie never errored, so drop the return and update callers).
gocyclo on the central UpdateNodeFromMapRequest and an SA1019 NetMap
deprecation in an integration helper are suppressed with reasons.
With the v1 API served by Huma and the CLI on the HTTP client, nothing
uses the gRPC service or its generated code. Delete proto/, the generated
gen/go and gen/openapiv2, grpcv1.go, the buf config, the proto .Proto()
helpers and gRPC config, and the proto build tooling from the flake and
CI.
