Kristoffer Dalby 9d5d397c1d state: never serve a single address inside the node ranges
Such a route names a node, not a subnet: it stays approved and listed
but no viewer gets it. Via inclusions skip the election, so the rule
sits on everything RoutesForPeer returns.

Michael LopezandClaude Fable 5.1 494e2a6808 db: quote postgres connection parameters (#3477)
* db: quote postgres connection parameters

The DSN was built by string concatenation, so a password containing a
space, quote or backslash truncated it or injected extra parameters.
Build it with libpq keyword/value quoting and keep the password out of
the startup log line.

* db: mark the DSN test fixture password as not a credential

gosec G101 flags the literal assigned to Pass in TestBuildPostgresDSN.
The value exists to exercise quoting of spaces, quotes and backslashes
and is not a secret.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* types, db: build the postgres DSN as a URL from PostgresConfig

Review feedback: move the DSN construction onto types.PostgresConfig as
DSN(), so the database layer calls cfg.Postgres.DSN() and logs
redacted.DSN(), and build it as a postgres:// URL with net/url instead
of hand-rolled libpq quoting. Unix socket directories travel as the
host query parameter; bare IPv6 literals are bracketed. Tests parse the
URL back and check each component rather than the encoded string.

* types: silence gosec on the whole DSN test fixtures

gosec reports G101 on the composite literal that holds a Pass value, not
on the Pass line itself, so the previous nolint did not cover it. Place
the directive before each fixture element.

* db: drop imports left unused by the merge with main

The merge of main reintroduced the slices and strconv imports in db.go,
but the postgres DSN is now built by PostgresConfig.DSN and nothing in
the file uses them, so the package failed to compile and every CI check
failed on typecheck.

Also link the CHANGELOG entry to the PR.

* db: restore tests and formatting lost in the rebase onto main

Resolving the rebase conflicts in db_test.go kept this branch's side and
dropped the credential tests main had added, including the
requireCredentialConstraints helper another test still calls, so the db
test package no longer compiled. Restore the file from main; this branch
does not change it.

The resolution also indented the package clause in db.go and removed the
blank line between the standard library and module imports.

Kristoffer Dalby 4cad0b564e types: lift configValidator across LoadServerConfig sub-builders
Sub-builders called after validateServerConfig (prefixV4, prefixV6,
allocation strategy, dns, oidc client secret/path, isSafeServerURL)
each returned the first error. So an operator that fixed one
issue saw the next one only on the next startup.

Lift one *configValidator across the entire LoadServerConfig flow.
validateServerConfigInto(v) populates it; each sub-builder's error
is wrapped in a structured *ConfigError (with the original sentinel
kept on the Cause field, so errors. Is against errOidcMutuallyExclusive,
errServerURLSame/Suffix, ErrNoPrefixConfigured, and
ErrInvalidAllocationStrategy keeps working). v.Err() is checked once,
right before the &Config{} construction.

TestReadConfig/base-domain-in-server-url-err matched the old sentinel
wording; flipped to the new structured Reason. Added
TestLoadServerConfig_CollectsAcrossSubBuilders to lock the wiring:
four sub-builder failures from a single config produce four
*ConfigErrors in the report.

Kristoffer Dalby 8a12c572ef types: route deprecation fatals through configValidator
deprecator.Log() called log.Fatal directly, so a single deprecated
key killed the process before any other validation rule could
report. Operators fixing one issue at a time.

Replace Log() with Apply(*configValidator). Warns still go to
log.Warn; fatals are pushed onto the validator as *ConfigError so
they merge with the rest of the config-load report. The free-form
strings collected via set.Set are gone; deprecator now stores
typed deprecation{OldKey, NewKey} records and Apply renders them
into the structured ConfigError shape.

Move the early-return PKCE check into a new validatePKCEConfig
modular validator for the same reason.

Kristoffer Dalby 7865430419 types: move sub-builder log.Fatal sites into validators
derpConfig, databaseConfig, and dnsToTailcfgDNS used log.Fatal to
reject invalid combinations the moment they were observed. Lift those
checks into modular validators (validateDERPConfig,
validateDatabaseConfig, validateMagicDNSConfig) called from
validateServerConfig so each violation lands in the same configValidator
collector and renders as a structured ConfigError next to all other
config feedback. The sub-builder functions trust validation has run
and no longer crash the process.

Kristoffer Dalby 1b4b79901a types: rework validateServerConfig to use ConfigError
Convert the errorText accumulator inside validateServerConfig to the
typed configValidator pattern. Each rule violation now renders as a
multi-line block naming the YAML key, the value the operator wrote,
and a hint pointing at the resolution. The dns.extra_records mutex
that previously crashed via log.Fatal is folded into the same
collector so an operator sees every problem in one go instead of
fixing them one startup attempt at a time.

Test wantErr assertions on validation output switch to substring
match because the rendered errors are now multi-line.

Kristoffer Dalby 284a4891d7 types: validate listener address collisions
Reject configurations where two configured TCP listeners would bind
the same kernel socket. Covers every pair of listen_addr,
grpc_listen_addr, metrics_listen_addr, and tls_letsencrypt_listen
(when HTTP-01 ACME is in use). Each violation renders as a structured
ConfigError naming both YAML keys, the values the operator wrote, and
a hint pointing at the canonical setup.

Closes the symptom in #3227: the misconfiguration is now rejected at
config-load time with a self-explaining error, instead of failing at
runtime with a misleading "address already in use" log because the
ACME challenge listener and the main HTTP listener competed for the
same port inside the same process.

Kristoffer Dalby 6031194c36 types: add listener address helpers
portFromAddr resolves numeric and named ports (":http", ":https")
without touching /etc/services or the resolver. listenersOverlap
follows kernel rules: same port plus a wildcard host on either side,
or same port plus identical specific host, both count as collision;
different specific hosts on the same port do not. Set an explicit
viper default for tls_letsencrypt_listen so a minimal config still
resolves to ":http".

Saleh 95ba1f0566 types: lowercase DNS extra record names
DNS names are case-insensitive, but clients match extra records against
the lowercased query name, so records with mixed-case names (for example

Kristoffer Dalby 622e08f5e6 oidc: harden callback CSRF cookies, state reuse, and issuer config
Defence-in-depth fixes to the OIDC login flow.

Set the state/nonce cookie Secure flag from the configured server_url
scheme rather than req.TLS, so the cookies stay Secure behind a
TLS-terminating reverse proxy where the proxy-to-Headscale hop is plain
HTTP. Deriving it from config avoids trusting a spoofable
X-Forwarded-Proto header.

Make the OIDC state single-use: consume it from the cache on the
callback and clear the state/nonce cookies once validated, so a replayed
callback cannot resolve the same session and the cookies do not linger
until expiry.

Bound OIDC discovery to the caller's context so a slow or unreachable
issuer fails startup within the timeout instead of hanging, and validate
the issuer URL and required client_id/client_secret at config load so an
unworkable setup fails fast.

Kristoffer Dalby 6b413fe237 api/v2: soft-revoke auth keys with a configurable collector
Tailscale's keys API has no separate expire verb: DELETE is the revoke.
Map it to a soft revoke so the key stays retrievable as invalid afterwards
instead of vanishing, matching the SDK and Terraform's expectations.

Add a revoked timestamp to pre-auth keys (migration plus schema), mark a
key invalid once revoked, and have the keys DELETE handler stamp it rather
than destroy the row. A background collector reaps revoked keys after a
configurable retention window (preauth_keys.revoked_retention, default
168h), so the table does not grow without bound.

Kristoffer Dalby 4cca63155d all: apply godoc [Name] link conventions across comments
Every Go-identifier reference in // and /* */ comments now uses
godoc's [Name] linking syntax so pkg.go.dev and `go doc` render
them as clickable cross-references. No behaviour change.

Pattern applied across the tree:
  In-package [Foo], [Foo.Bar]
  Cross-package [pkg.Foo], [pkg.Foo.Bar]
  Stdlib [netip.Prefix], [errors.Is], [context.Context]
  Tailscale [tailcfg.MapResponse], [tailcfg.Node.CapMap],
                     [tailcfg.NodeAttrSuggestExitNode]

Skip rules:
  - File:line refs left as plain text
  - HuJSON wire keys inside backtick raw strings untouched
  - ACL/policy syntax tokens (tag:foo, autogroup:self, ...) not Go
    symbols, left as plain text
  - JSON/OIDC wire keys, gorm tags, RFC IPv6 placeholders, markdown
link tags, decorative dividers — all left as-is

Kristoffer Dalby c6c29c05e5 hscontrol: gate proxy header trust on trusted_proxies
chi middleware.RealIP was mounted unconditionally on both the
public router and the noise router, so any client could send
X-Real-IP or X-Forwarded-For and have the spoofed value land in
r.RemoteAddr and the access-log remote= field.

Add a top-level trusted_proxies config option (list of CIDRs) and
replace middleware.RealIP with a gated middleware that:

  - honours True-Client-IP / X-Real-IP / X-Forwarded-For only when
    r.RemoteAddr is inside one of the configured prefixes;
  - strips those three headers from every request whose peer is
not trusted, so downstream handlers cannot read them.

X-Forwarded-For is parsed via realclientip-go's
RightmostTrustedRangeStrategy so a prepended value cannot win in a
proxy chain. trustedProxies() rejects 0.0.0.0/0 and ::/0 at config
load.

Empty trusted_proxies (the default) skips the mount entirely;
r.RemoteAddr is the directly-connecting TCP peer.

Kristoffer Dalby 64d13f77e8 types/config, types/node: model default-auto-update from auto_update.enabled
Tailscale stamps tailcfg.NodeAttrDefaultAutoUpdate on every node's
CapMap with a JSON bool reflecting the tailnet-wide auto-update
default. Headscale grows an auto_update.enabled config option and
emits the cap accordingly from TailNode -- the cap leaves the
unmodelledTailnetStateCaps strip list and is compared in full by the
nodeAttrs compat suite.

testNodeAttrsSuccess drives cfg.AutoUpdate.Enabled from
tf.Input.Tailnet.Settings.DevicesAutoUpdatesOn so each capture's
expected emission matches the SaaS state it was taken under. Two
captures cover both branches:

  - nodeattrs-tailnet-devices-auto-updates-on  -> [true]
  - nodeattrs-tailnet-devices-auto-updates-off -> [false]

The Tailscale v2 TailnetSettings API does not expose the Send Files
toggle, so the compat suite cannot vary cfg.Taildrop.Enabled per
capture. TestTaildropDisabledWithholdsFileSharingCap covers the off
path directly in servertest.

Kristoffer Dalby 3f73ed5404 config, types: move randomize_client_port from server config to policy file
Tailscale models the randomize-client-port toggle as a top-level
field on the ACL policy. Headscale now matches that shape: the
server-config randomize_client_port key is removed, the toggle
lives in the policy file as randomizeClientPort, and per-node
opt-in via nodeAttrs is also supported.

Operators upgrading from a config-set randomize_client_port hit
depr.fatalWithHint at startup, which prints the deprecation message
and points at the new policy field rather than silently dropping
the toggle. The default carries over (false) so operators who never
set it are unaffected. config-example.yaml ships a REMOVED stanza
showing the migration.

types/node.go drops the cfg.RandomizeClientPort read from
TailNode -- the cap is now policy-driven through compileNodeAttrs
and the tail_test.go expectations follow.

Kristoffer Dalby 4d0b273b90 types: add node.expiry config, deprecate oidc.expiry
Introduce a structured NodeConfig that replaces the flat
EphemeralNodeInactivityTimeout field with a nested Node section.

Add node.expiry config (default: no expiry) as the unified default key
expiry for all non-tagged nodes regardless of registration method.

Remove oidc.expiry entirely — node.expiry now applies to OIDC nodes
the same as all other registration methods. Using oidc.expiry in the
config is a hard error. determineNodeExpiry() returns nil (no expiry)
unless use_expiry_from_token is enabled, letting state.go apply the
node.expiry default uniformly.

The old ephemeral_node_inactivity_timeout key is preserved for
backwards compatibility.
